    The Phrygian Cap of Liberty is the mushroom cap symbolized on ancient Phrygian helmets (97d) and is seen on Greek coins as early as 392-358 BC, along with a dragon on top (48e); Roman coins from 65 AD, where the cap is flanked with sword handles which resemble mushrooms (55f); on Macedonian coins from the 300 BC era, as part of the strange helmet, (50f, h); US coins from the 1700’s (56e); the Declaration of Rights of France; the flags of El Salvador and Nicaragua (61j, l), and more recently we see it being worn by Papa Smurf and his gang (61w).
