(8) Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. (9) But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” (10) He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so, I hid.” (11) And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” (12) The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” (13) Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:1-13) What happened here was that Adam and Eve became “self-aware,” which is what happens when one takes a psychedelic, entheogenic substance. The Lord’s scolding of Adam and Eve implies a form of awareness of good and bad to begin with, so eating of the apple is not what gave them knowledge of good and evil, precisely. If Adam and Eve had not known good or bad previously, how were they supposed to know that eating the apple was bad? What happened was Adam and Eve were now aware and self-conscious of their actions. They could no longer deny what was in front of them, the truth. The truth is naked and raw. So the Lord makes them clothes to wear: “(21) The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. (22) And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:22) – “One of us” implies, he knows he is a mushroom, now. He is conscious of his maker, who is also a mushroom. Ever since ancient times there has been a taboo against eating certain red foods. This was to keep the average citizen from eating the A. muscaria and getting accidently “enlightened.” In the story of the Garden of Eden, the apple that Eve is not supposed to eat, is of course red. In the Irish tale of the Romance of Diarmuid and Grainne, the rowan berry, with the apple and the red nut, is described as the “Food of the Gods.” In ancient Greece, red foods such as lobster, red mullet, crayfish, scarlet berries and red fruits were not served at feasts which honored the dead. (83) Depictions of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, in which the Tree of Life is depicted as a mushroom are plentiful, but not from the Jewish era. These all come from the medieval period onward and found in churches throughout the world. First we have the fresco from the Abbaye de Plaincourault, in France, dated 1100-1200 AD, which shows Adam and Eve with a giant mushroom in the middle (62a). |
