![]() ![]() ![]() Chartres Cathedral is one of the most spectacular churches that exists in Europe. It has a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary, “Our Lady of the Pillar,” hoisted up as a stalk to the giant ribbed dome above her head creating the perfect mushroom shape (64g). The stained-glass images inside display scenes of Jesus and amanita mushrooms that are glaringly obvious (64b, c, d, e, f). Mixed in are some trees and plants that look similar to the mushrooms, however, the plants and trees have distinctive leaves and the mushroom caps have dots and ridges, making it clear of the intention. The church as it exists today was built during the time period of 1194-1220 AD. The majority of the windows are original from the 12th -- 13th century.
