Another type of experience that has common similarities between shamanic and UFO experiences is that of the “light thread.” This is the experience of floating up towards the light. The !Kung shaman Bo claims that when the power is strong he sees ropes of light that go up into the sky: “When I see a rope of light I walk towards it. As soon as I get to it or near to it, I start floating up to the sky . . . You don’t have to grab it or touch it. You just float away with that rope. That line just takes you. You become so light that you simply fly away.” (141) Another shaman, Mabolele Shikwe describes the same: “The rope can take away anyone who comes to the dance. If you are very strong and you don’t fall to the ground, the rope can take you away while you are dancing. (142) A Kalahari shaman named Cgunta !elae claims the same type of experience as well: “When I go to the rope, it makes me float up to the sky. Sometimes I travel to another place the instant I go toward it. At other times you simply walk along it. …” … “When we go up the rope we sometimes see other doctors from our community who are also going up the same rope. The ropes will be there forever. They point down to us from the sky. The place in the sky is where the Big God lives . . .“ (143) In a comparable UFO abduction experience, Mack documents one individual Nona, who described the process as follows: “I’m inside the beam of light. I’m going up, and there’s a hole above me, and it’s dark, but there’s light all around it. It’s like a blue light . . . a blue beam of light comes down to the ground, and then it was almost like going through a tunnel.” (144) One of Mack’s case studies involved Andrea who was awakened in her bedroom by a flash of blue light. What are described as “very skinny beings with bulging heads and huge eyes” which appeared to be made of light entered her room and held a stick or a rod and pressed it to the back of Andrea’s ear. The next thing she remember was being floated upwards feet first right through the glass of the bedroom window and high over trees, Andrea relates that there was a string of light attached from her navel to these beings and reports streamers of lights extending from the beings to her body. Andrea believed these threads were used to pull her up to the ship. (145) In another case mentioned by Mack, and cited as well by Hancock, the case of an abductee named Arthur who saw a “light like a thread, a spider’s thread that’s lit” extending down from the night sky and a group of “little lighted beings clustered all together” who told him: “Don’t be afraid or it will break the thread.” (146) And lastly, the Cubeo tribe, a group of shamans who drink ayahuasca so their souls can have congress with the spirit world, referring to the “star people” state: “… and then the Star-People descend, with their shining eyes, with their brilliant eyes, and surround those sitting on their benches. The scintillating lights come and try to carry them back to the Milky Way ...” (147) |
The Alien-Government Alliance Personally, I don’t trust any book or any one source. That’s why I have cited so many various authors to bring about a rounded discussion from all kinds of viewpoints. Mack was a psychiatrist from Harvard, and he may or may not have good intentions. Laurance Rockefeller funded Mack’s Institute and also funded his trial attorney, Daniel Sheehan. (148) Sheehan has done some good things. I’m not so sure about Laurance and his intentions. Here is a direct quote: “My interest in ETI is prompted by the fact that I have been long concerned with the possibility of expanding man’s spiritual and intellectual potential. This interest stems from a lifetime of concern and support for innovative thinking in fields such as philosophy, holistic healing, science and spirituality. I have become convinced that we must fulfill more of our human potential if we are to cope with the increasing difficult problems which now challenge our quality of life and our very survival.” Henry L. Diamond, attorney for Laurance S. Rockefeller, wrote in a letter dated March 29, 1993, to the Office of Science and Technology Policy, requesting a meeting with Rockefeller and then Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, Dr. Gibbons, to discuss “the potential availability of government information about unidentified flying objects and extraterrestrial life.” Rockefeller, the letter said, was prepared to tell President Clinton that: “There is a belief in many quarters that the government has long held classified information regarding UFOs which has not been released and that the failure to do so has brought about unnecessary suspicion and distrust. Many believe that the release of such information, if it exists, on a basis consistent with national security considerations, would be a significant gesture which would increase confidence in government.” (149) (141) Bradford Keeney, Ropes to God: Experiencing the Bushan Spiritual Universe, Rolling Rocks Press, 2003, p. 38, 42 (142) Bradford Keeney, Ropes to God: Experiencing the Bushan Spiritual Universe, Rolling Rocks Press, 2003, page 43 (143) Supernatural, p. 128; Ropes to God p. 99 (144) ibid; Passport, Mack, p. 73-74 (145) ibid, p. 127; Passport, Mack, p. 69 (146) ibid, p. 127; Passport, Mack, p. 378-79 (147) ibid, p. 130; G.
