| Blood covenants between men replaced the motherly covenant between her and her child. When the religion of the Hebrews decided to take this literally and apply it, they were saying in effect, “we reject the mother and we embrace the father.” Yahweh’s covenant with the Hebrews stated that it would pass down through Abraham’s descendants when previously, in many cultures, the family lineage was passed down through the women, because paternity could never be assured. As it is written in Genesis: (17) I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, (18) and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me. (Genesis 22:17-18) (123) Wilhelm Reich’s work with orgone energy led him to conclude that sexual energy was a primary, untapped resource that could be controlled easily by authoritarian forces for nefarious purposes. In the book The Mass Psychology of Fascism, written in 1933, Reich pointed out that fascists come to power due to sexual repression in the people. The early priesthood capitalized on this by promoting sexual abstinence for purification purposes and then taking it a step further and promoting it as a way of life to those who seek the highest spiritual purity. It is well understood that there is a need to abstain from sexual activities as well as certain foods prior to ayahuasca ceremonies and this understanding might also apply to mushroom ingestion though the understanding may have been lost over time as the worship of it was slowly wiped out over time. What started out as a means to keep the body pure and keep dark forces away during the consumption of entheogens became a means to attain absolute oneness with God at all times, which would inevitably lead to major sexual repression. After generations of religious indoctrination and social organization centered on government, family, and God, (the male God, of course), and the most defining aspect of all, racial purity, people could be led to actively participate in sadistic acts of tyranny and genocide. In discussing the rise of fascism and its association with the patriarchy Reich writes: “It was not until relatively late, with the establishment of an authoritarian patriarchy and the beginning of the division of the classes, that suppression of sexuality begins to make its appearance. It is at this stage that sexual interests in general begin to enter the service of a minority's interest in material profit; in the patriarchal marriage and family this state of affairs assumes a solid organizational form. With the restriction and suppression of sexuality, the nature of human feeling changes; a sex-negating religion comes into being and gradually develops its own sex-political organization, the church with all its predecessors, the aim of which is nothing other than the eradication of man's sexual desires and consequently of what little happiness there is on earth. There is good reasonfor all this when seen from the perspective of the now-thriving exploitation of human labor.” (125) |
Reich also stated: “It is characteristic, for example, that in ethnology political reaction favors the patriarchal theory while the revolutionary world adheres to the matriarchal theory. This divergent sociological attitude toward historical facts corresponds to hitherto undiscovered sex-economic processes. Matriarchy—a historically proven fact—is not only the organization of natural work democracy but also that of the sex-economically natural society. Patriarchy, on the other hand, has not only an authoritarian economic organization, but also a catastrophically chaotic sex-economic organization.” Reich is speaking about the effect a materialistic economy has on society, overall. The farther a society moves away from its psychedelic spiritual roots, the more room there is for materialism to take hold in the lives of the people. Another quote from Reich on the patriarchal order is the following: “The patriarchal authoritarian sexual order developed from the fundamental changes taking place in late matriarchy, such as economic independence of the chief's family from the maternal tribe, increasing barter trade between the tribes, development of the means of production, etc. This patriarchal sexual order then became the basis of authoritarian ideology by depriving women, children and adolescents of sexual freedom, by making a commodity out of sexuality, and by putting sexuality in the service of economic suppression. Under these circumstances, sexuality, in fact, came to be distorted into something demoniacal which had to be restrained.” (126) In conclusion, a patriarchal society, produces a lot more people, because women no longer have control over their bodies, and instead, men have taken that control, requiring more children, for increased production, due to competition, thereby producing lots of material excess in order to keep “all the extra people” employed. This production of material excess leads inevitably to a fast depletion of natural resources and creates the impossibility of balance with nature. Ideals of cooperation with nature are then discouraged and attitudes of destruction and disrespect prevail. In order to control the masses, fascism is then employed, and this system is at least as old as Rome.
