Part of the inspiration for the cover of the book is also attributed to what I think is my favorite piece of artwork from the ancient world, from the Chapel of the Sancta Sanctorum in the Lateran Palace, Rome. Originally from Syria or Palestine c. 500-600 AD, titled, “Nativity and Baptism in the Jordan,” it depicts several “enlightened” souls, sitting below what appears to be a giant mushroom, or perhaps it’s a spaceship UFO. It’s not easy to say because the figure has what looks like portals all around the circumference and one of the portal holes looks like it may have a stem coming down from it. Either way, it’s a perfect painting which encompasses the entire idea of the mushroom as a UFO (92g). (13) Another very good painting which illuminates the idea of mushrooms as UFOs is from Tibet. Either mushrooms or UFOs could be interpreted from this artwork (92c). I would not be surprised if both were meant to be conveyed at once. A Fresco of the crucifixion in the Svetishoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, Georgia, c. 1600-1700 AD, looks similar as well, and could be interpreted to be either mushrooms of UFOs (92h).![]() (92g) Nativity and Baptism in the Jordan - From the Chapel of the Sancta Sanctorum in the Lateran Palace Rome.
